First Day of Regionals

First Game Against Latta

Regionals were played at Hinton this year and Todd and I made the trip to watch Derrick play. Also there was Uncle Chad who wouldn't have missed it for the world. Unfortunately... the first game was a little dissapointing. There was one bad inning that got away from them and they lost the first game... significantly.

There were two games in between their next game so we went to Weatherford to meet Amy for dinner. Derrick had to stay at the field but we brought him chips and salsa from our dinner!

The Second Game of the Day

The Game Derrick will NEVER Forget!

Derrick was a Rock Star

Ok..... here's how it went down......

Since we lost the first game we had to win this game to stay in the tournament.

By the way.... the game started an hour late.. Amy joined us and all SERIOUS the action started about 11:45 PM!

Alright... This is it!

The game had gone into an extra inning because obviously they were tied 3-3 at the end of nine innings.

Hinton was up to bat first in the inning and they scored 3 runs! Our hearts sank because we are not always the best at scoring runs. Keeping others from scoring runs yes... scoring runs... not so much!

We were down but not out! We knew to win we had to score 4 runs! We fought and actually got 2 runs when Derrick came up to bat which are the pictures below. So the score was 5-6 and we had 1 out and needed 2 runs to win the game. Derrick comes up to bat and gets 2 strikes right off the bat! Then gets a ball and two fowl balls.... THEN rips the ball in the outfield like I have never seen him hit the ball... EVER! Two runners come home and we WIN THE BALL GAME!!!!

Everyone went crazy.... we were jumping up and down! The team stormed the field! It was crazy!

Everyone was patting him on the back and hugging him and taking his picture! He was a rock star for the night! It was so fun to watch!

They lived to play another day!
