The Blizzard

The Blizzard.... That Wasn't!
3/27/09

The weather channels kept predicting 12-18 inches of snow for Major County so we were bracing for the BIG ONE! But it never quite materialized.

Friday started with thunder, lightening and freezing rain! All at the same time! Really weird!
That went on most of the day.

The freezing rain turned to snow in the evening and we ended up getting about 5 inches of snow. Janell said she got over a foot about 13 miles out of Fairview.

We built a fire in the fireplace and Derrick went sledding and he said they wrestled in the snow and threw snow in each other's faces?!?! He was out all day and said he had fun.

The Fairview Baseball Tournament has been canceled....

Fairview Baseball Tournament

The Fairview Baseball Tournament Started
3/26/09
~
What made it an even more exciting evening is that we are in a BLIZZARD warning for tomorrow and Saturday!

The boys played Okeene in the first round of the Fairview Tournament. We are not sure if the tournament will finish this week with the blizzard on its way! Derrick played First and Third because Fairivew had two teams in the tournament. They pulled of the win after being behind by 2 for 4 innings. The final score was 5-4.

They are supposed to play at 1:30 Friday but... we will see what time the blizzard rolls into town!

Baseball Season Starts!

IT'S BASEBALL SEASON!!!!!
3/23/09

One reason I know that is.....
The wind is blowing 50 miles per hour and there are tornado warnings all over the state!
~
Another reason is....
Saturday... there is a chance of SNOW and not just snow a BLIZZARD!
~
YEP ~ Let's Play Ball!
~
The Jackets traveled to Chisholm tonight. They left an hour early to hopefully get their game started before the storms hit! After two rain delays they did finish their game.
~
Unfortunately... they ended up losing 5-3.
~
Derrick plays first base. He walked the first time up to bat and scored. The second time up to bat he hit the ball but got out at first. The third time at bat he walked but wasn't able to score.

Spring Break

Derrick went with his Uncle Chad and Aunt Amy on a ski trip with SWOSU for a week.

Looks like a great place to be!

Sounds like he had a GREAT time!

Evening entertainment

Who is that masked man!??!

Someone.... thought being masked would make him a better poker player!??!
Guess is worked... He won enough money to buy me an awesome shirt!
Thanks everyone!

I think this is the house Derrick is going to live in when he becomes rich after college! Works for me! I'll pack my bags!!

On the way home in Denver

They all stopped in Amarillo on the way home at the famous steak house that has the 72 oz steak. If you can eat it in an hour, you can have it for free. Of course you have to eat all the sides too.

One of the football players at SWOSU decided to try it! He came VERY close to doing it BUT ordered the steak medium rare and couldn't stand the taste of it by the end when it was cold. He ate 50 of the 72 ounces and all his sides but couldn't finish it. He still ate Chad's cake when he was finished! It made for a fun meal!

And Derrick!

They got back to Weatherford about 3:00 in the morning! Everyone was really tired but had a great time!
~
I think he had a very memorable spring break - Thanks to his Aunt and Uncle!

Thoughts for Derrick

To be compassionate means you strive to know what it's like to be in the shoes of another person. ~ Don't Sweat the Small Stuff

State Tournament vs Talihina

Jackets Play Talihina
2nd Round of State Tournament
3/13/09

Jacket fans from far and wide traveled to Southern Nazarene to cheer on their team. Past alumni were found all over the crowds to see if this would be the team that would bring Fairview their first State Tournament Championship in basketball.

The atmosphere was intense but hopeful that if we won this game we would probably play Pawnee again and that was a challenge we welcomed since we lost to them in the Wheat Capital Tournament by 2 points in double overtime.

We cheered and cheered and willed the Jackets to make a shot but it just couldn't be done. The Jackets only scored 4 points in the first quarter! It was as if there was a lid on the basket. NOTHING would go in. It was extremely discouraging. They went into half time behind by 23 points.
~
But our Jackets NEVER quit! They kicked and clawed their way back from a 23 point deficit to a 2 point lead with 60 second left in the 4th quarter! We thought we were actually going to pull this off! The biggest come back in recent history! The crowd was going crazy!
~
Then as quick as we took the lead they tied us and a last second foul everything went crazy and we ended up losing by 2 points! It was a very emotional loss when you fight that hard to come back and have the lead with just seconds away and it's taken from you! The final score was 61-59. Talihina went on to play Pawnee and lost by 1 point in overtime. Pawnee is the State Champion.
~
We couldn't be more proud of them. It just wasn't meant to be. They ended their season 25-5 and were seconds away from making it to the "Big House". It was an awesome season and was exciting to watch!

State Tournament vs Chisholm

Jackets Play Chisholm
1st Round of State Tournament
3/12/09

Everyone was very tense and excited about this game. We had beat Chisholm twice this year but the same was true with Watonga and the third time they beat us.

Chisholm was very determined to make this a game and jumped to a 8-0 lead to start the game. The Jackets battled back and were down by 1 point going into the second quarter. The Jackets went into half time with a 18-16 lead.

The Jackets extended their lead in the third quarter but Chisholm fought back and made it a 2 point game. It was a very close game at the start of the 4th quarter and the point spread went back and forth but in the end the Jackets won the game.

The Jackets live to play another day and take on Talihina tomorrow at Southern Nazarene University at 4:30

Final Score 58-46!

Uncle Erik came to watch the game
(As did Nana, Papa, Chad, Greg & Michelle, Janell & Bob & Jane)
Aunt Amy had to work but will be at tomorrows game!
