Thoughts for Derrick

Whether you think you can or think you can't.... You're right. ~ Henry Ford

Scrimmage at Woodward

The Jackets Traveled to Woodward
November 25, 2008

The boys had their second scrimmage at Woodward last night. I wasn't there because I had a board meeting, but Derrick did really good. He said he made 5 points. He's still working on his wing shot. It looks like that is going to be his shot this year. I'm looking forward to watching him play this year. They were supposed to have a scrimmage Saturday, but Canton is still in the playoffs in football so it has been canceled.

Playing Guitar at Church

Derrick Played Guitar at Church Sunday
November 23, 2008
Derrick played his guitar with some of the others in the MBY Youth Group Sunday during the Praise and Worship time at church. I didn't get a picture of it, but it was great to watch and listen to him play. He was going to play a solo but he didn't have quite enough time to practice. I had a migraine during the service and had to leave a little early and didn't get to see him play his last song at the end of the service. The youth had their Annual Strudel Dinner after church for their MBY fund raiser. Unfortunately, I was in ER getting a shot and had to wait until later to sample the strudel.

Scrimmage against Enid

Basketball Season is Here!
11/20/08
~
The boys ended football early and started basketball the next week. Their first scrimmage of the season was against Enid.
Fairview dropped down to 2A this year. Depending on which poll you look at they have a preseason ranking anywhere from #1 in their class to #7. We're going with the #1 poll!
We are looking forward to a great season!

~ Blocking out ~

Derrick made several points - Nice form!

It's VERY bright now!

The stage still has to be renovated and it is still up in the air if it will be completed before graduation. We're crossing our fingers!

NHS Installation

National Honor Society
Installation
November 11, 2008

Each year the National Honor Society has an instillation of new members at the Arts and Education Center. New members are installed and returning members are recognized. To be a member of NHS you have to have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 at the beginning of each year and complete an application that includes community volunteer hours. Derrick has been a member for 3 years.

NHS Officers for 2008 - 2009 school year

Todd Smith was the speaker this year.
He played football for OU when they won the National Championship.

Thoughts for Derrick

What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us. ~ Oliver Wendell Holmes

Alva comes to Fairview

Last Game for the Jackets
11/7/08

The Jackets play-off dreams come to an end tonight.
~

Alva traveled to Fairview and this was a must win game for the Jackets. The score was 0-0 at half time and we knew our play-off dream were still in sight. But Alva came back after half time to score 21 points in the third quarter

The game ended with a score of 28-0.
~
The last home game of the season is parents night. The Senior mom's wear their son's jersey to walk out on the field.

Me with Todd, Dakota and Krystal

We once again put the boys' names in the fence
Sadly.... for the last time

The last time all the Seniors would be on the field together

Derrick's cheering section!
Chad and Amy came to the game and so did Papa. He had the flu but was a trooper and came to the game anyway. This was only the second game Nana missed because she was sick in bed with the flu.
Me with Janell, Michelle and Amy.
Michelle even made it to the VERY end of the game ~ Huddle and everything!
~
A very emotional end to their season

What I love about this school is they still pray together as a team after every game.
As it should be...
~

I couldn't be more proud of Derrick this season. He was put in a new position and did awesome. A few bumps and bruises and fluid drained out of his elbow along the way but no major injuries which I'm very thankful for.
Hopefully he will look back on this football season with great memories.

Jackets Play Kingfisher

Tough Game for the Jackets
10/31/08
The Jackets and loyal fans traveled to Kingfisher for the game on Halloween. Kingfisher is ranked #2 in our division so we knew it was going to be a tough game. We were hoping for the big upset ~ but sadly it wasn't our night. Kingfisher was leading 25-0 going into half time but we knew we still had a chance to catch up. We came back in the third quarter to score 10 points but Kingfisher just didn't let up. The game ended with a score of 46-10. A tough one to swallow.

Tough loss for everyone

Looking on to Alva next week
Their bus broke down and they had to wait for 2 Kingfisher buses to take them home. Not a good night all around ~ poor guys!
