Derrick's License

Can't leave this out....
Derrick's driver's license picture last year
And it should be noted....
Derrick did the Parent Taught Drivers Education. So.... that means I taught him everything he knows ~ And he's going to be a GREAT driver!

No School

No School Today!
1/27/09
As luck would have it.... an Ice Storm hit yesterday so school was called off today!

Derrick's truck iced down this morning ~ He could barely get it up the driveway last night.

Derrick's "Accident"

Remembering Derrick's Treadmill Accident
of 2 Years Ago!

To priceless not to include in the blog! Derrick and his friends, in their infinite wisdom, decided to go to the Fitness Center and work out. Well... some genius in the group decided to dare Derrick to jump on the treadmill while it was on ~ GOING 12 MILES PER HOUR!!
~
I don't have to tell you what happened next.... Of course, Derrick took the dare and the treadmill threw him off and his legs skidded across the treadmill leaving lots of skin and he hit the wall behind the treadmill. All in all ... Not one of Derrick's smartest moves!
~
He had no skin left on his knees or ankles and what was left was oozing! It was disgusting and very painful! We had to have Dawn in PT at the hospital help us with wound care. It was a very LONG process and he now has the scars to prove it.
~
I don't think he will EVER live that one down!

Okeene Tournament - Saturday

Okeene Tournament - Championship Game
~
Jackets vs Okeene
1/24/09
~
The Jackets came to Okeene tonight with something to prove ~ they deserved the Championship. And, they got it! Winning 47-31!
~
It was a physical game because very few fouls were called. But it was sweet to see the clock run down and the Jackets in the lead knowing we were going to win!

Okeene Tournament - Friday

Okeene Tournament - Friday Night
Jackets vs Seiling
1/23/09

Derrick and Blake before the game.
~
The Jackets and Seiling got to have another match up tonight. The last time they played them in Seiling, they got beat. We all knew if they came out and really played a good game they could beat them. And.... that's exactly what happened! They came out fighting and never looked back. The Jackets took the lead at the beginning of the game and kept it the whole time. The final score was 67-56.

~

The Jackets go on to play for the Championship tomorrow night!!

~

The girls fell to Vici losing 60-43. They kept is close most of the game but Vici pulled away in the 4th Quarter. The girls will play for 3rd place tomorrow.

Thoughts for Derrick

Try not to become a person of success, but rather try to become a person of value. ~ Albert Einstein

Derrick's First Airplane Ride

Derrick's First Airplane Ride
5th Birthday

When Derrick turned 5, one of his presents was his first ride in an airplane. Derrick and I flew to Oklahoma to see Nana & Papa. It was very exciting and he LOVED it!
~
Nana and Papa were waiting for us at the airport in OKC. He got special treatment from the Flight Attendants and got an airplane pin. He was really into airplanes at the time and, every time I would fly I would buy him airplane toys from the airport.
~
Now he's an old pro at flying!

Okeene Tournament - Thursday

The Annual Okeene Tournament Started Today
1/22/09

Jackets @ Watonga

Basketball Game @ Watonga
1/20/09
~
The Jackets were on the road AGAIN! We only have one home game in the entire month of January. I'm ready for February!
~
The officiating in Watonga is always sub par at best and ALWAYS in the favor of Watonga. That is just a known fact. Last year Coach Barton got thrown out of the girls game because he was so exasperated! This game was a a little different. There were no fouls called AT ALL! Okay, maybe a few, but at least it was on both sides.
~
The boys won by two points. A game very much like when Watonga traveled to Fairview earlier in the season. The Jackets had a small lead but let them back in the game at the end, tied it up and the boys won by 2 in the last seconds of the game. Final score 44-42.

Baby Picture

One of my favorite baby pictures of Derrick...

This is the picture I submitted to the yearbook staff for Derrick's baby picture. At the back of the yearbook, the parents of the seniors can submit a baby picture and their thoughts about their child. I teared up just writing it...

Jackets @ Chisholm

Yellowjackets Travel to Chisholm
1/16/09
~
The boys won their game without a lot of suspense tonight with a score of 52-49. I wasn't able to be there because I was still on jury duty in deliberations. The pictures are courtesy of Janell. The girls game was another story. They went into DOUBLE overtime! But when it was all over... they lost 68-74.

Jackets @ Seiling

Jackets Travel to Seiling
1/13/09
The Jackets and Lady Jackets traveled to Seiling Tuesday to play basketball. They had hoped to get back on track after their loss to Pioneer last weekend.

That would not be the case tonight. The Lady Jackets had an uphill battle from the beginning as well as the Jackets. Unfortunately, neither team came away with a win. The girls lost 48-36 and the guys lost 54-48. The Jackets had only scored 5 points at the end of the first quarter. They trailed the entire game except the last couple minutes of the game. They caught up and lead by 2 points but lost their lead at the free throw line.

Better luck Friday at Chisholm!

Beach Pics

Derrick's First Trip to Canton Lake

I love these beach pictures of Derrick.

Difficult to believe he was ever this small now that he's over 6 feet tall!

Too cute!

Wheat Capital Tournament - Saturday

Jackets Play Pioneer for Championship
1/10/09

We knew before the game started this was going to be a tough game. Pioneer is ranked #1 in their Class 1A and we are ranked #1 in 2A. Both teams were undefeated coming into tonight's game.

Though they fought hard, Pioneer proved to be the better team when the night was over. They had some very tall boys on their team and we had a difficult night getting any of our shots to fall. No one could get on a scoring run for the Jackets.
~
In the end... we lost 49-32 but won Second Place in the Wheat Capital Tournament.
~
(Blake Fast, Dillon Baldwin, and Tara Burchfield were named to the All-Tournament Team)
~
The Lady Jackets won their game 40-37 and placed 3rd in the tournament

Wheat Capital Tournament - Friday

Day 2 of the Wheat Capital Tournament

1/9/09

The Jackets played Kingfisher tonight for their spot in the Championship Game tomorrow night. It was a close game all night, BUT Fairview came away with the win ~ winning by 10 points!

Derrick got a little playing time during the game.

1-8-09
The boys won their game against Alva and go on to play tomorrow night.
There was a professional photographer taking pictures for the tournament. They turned out awesome. The pictures of Derrick are for the Alva game but some of the others are throughout the tournament.
