The Long Road

Taking the Long Road to the Big House!
2/27/09
~

Both the boys and girls faced Watonga last night at home for the first round of Regionals. The boys had defeated them twice this year and it has been a tough game each time. They are very quick and have a good defense. We all knew it was going to be a very fast paced game and probably very close. But... we weren't quite prepared for what happened last night.
~
Watonga could NOT miss a shot! They started off the game shooting 3 pointers and made everything they put up! We started off down by 8 and struggled the entire game. We ended up losing 76-86. Like we thought, it was extremely fast paced and very physical. So now they cannot lose another game or they are out of the playoffs.
~
The girls also played a good game but couldn't break away from the Lady Watonga Eagles. They lost 45-47. They too are in the losers bracket now.
~
We travel to Hinton tonight for the first of hopefully many games to come in the playoffs.
This was the last home basketball game the Seniors will every play at home ; (

Thoughts for Derrick

Teamwork is absolutely essential to winning basketball games. Basketball is not a one-man game, but a team undertaking, a team endeavor. Each man must be willing to sacrifice personal ambition for the good of the team. ~ Bert Jones

Trip to Weatherford

Working Trip to Weatherford
2/15/09
This picture sums up the day I think!
~
Derrick, Papa and I went to Weatherford Sunday to help Uncle Chad and Aunt Amy with their trailer. Chad still had a shower to install and Amy and I were going to decorate. It was a LLOOONGG Day! But Derrick got to learn a little about how NOT to install a shower! And Chad and Amy treated us to lunch.
~

All was going well and Amy and I thought progress was being made because we could see the shower walls going into the bathroom. THEN... we hear water spraying everywhere and "Oh Crap!" Derrick's face poking out of the bathroom said it all! Things were not going well and there was a MAJOR water leak coming out of the walls and the faucet. HOT water mind you!

Told them I was taking pictures because SOME DAY... Maybe not today or any day soon..... They would look back on this and laugh!
~
Before it all went bad...

Derrick and Amy taking a break

They had to put the water in a bucket so it wouldn't spray all over the bathroom. Derrick was the bucket guy while Papa and Chad tried to figure out how to get the water turned off at the meter.

Amy and I were successful with our decorating project. I think it looks really nice.

We got home about 9:30 but the shower is under control. Not fixed but under control!

89er Conference Game

89er Conference Championship Game
Chisholm High School
2/14/08
~
The boys played in the championship game against Pawnee. Pawnee is #1 in the state in 2A and we are #2. We knew going in this was going to be a great match up. It was a nail biter to the very end.
~
We went into DOUBLE overtime before the game was decided and Jaren and Dillon both fouled out. In the end we lost by 3 points after a very exciting game.
~
I know they look forward to meeting them again in the playoffs!
~
The girls played for 3rd place and lost their game by 4 to Newkirk.

Upcoming Baseball Season

Baseball is Just Around the Corner!
~
The following is from the Fairview High School website. It is a column written about the upcoming baseball season.
~
The Fairview High School Yellow Jackets will be looking for a great year in baseball for this season. Although we lost seniors that contributed to a lot of the starters we still have good players to fill the spots of those that have graduated. Returning starters are Jarin Stafford, Matthew Regier, Tyson Hiebert, Dillon Baldwin, and with a lot of playing for the Yellow Jackets include Jeff Smith, Derrick Fast, Logan Nightengale, Bobby Garrett, and Tanner Dillard and Jared Penner will be contributing again this year. The other Yellow Jacket members that will have to help contribute to filling the holes that we have from last year include: Alex Barrett, Dalton Day, Evan Fast, Aaron Helm, Tye Judd, Chase McGolden, Baron Reese, Gavin Boyer, and other possible players returning from freshman. The Yellow Jackets will be coming off of a good year and 2nd place in the Fairview Tournament. Since the new classifications have came out of all the classes Fairview has dropped to class 2A and are expecting a lot of great things from this talented team and will hope to fill all the holes with experienced young players. Although you can’t base positions as early as now based on how hard everyone works but they will be looking at a good core of seniors including Jarin Stafford in left field and pitches, Jeff Smith with good experience in the outfield and also in the infield, Derrick Fast with good infield skills has the ability to play third or first, Dillon Baldwin with good infield at short and also pitching and Jared Penner is looking to contribute to the outfield as well. Matt Regier will occupy the outfield as well as infield spots including pitching, Logan Nightengale is a good infielder as well as pitcher, and Bobby Garrett also with infield skills and pitching skills. The solid core coaching staff with much experience in their career hopefully added much success this year include Coach Monty Hayes and Coach Titus Burrell. The Yellow Jackets will have a tough schedule ahead of them but have many winnable games. With much success and hard work that many team members of the Yellow Jackets had added this summer they are looking at good experience from their bats and their infield/outfield and pitching work.
