Thoughts for Derrick

Be proud of who you are and what you stand for, and you will be proud of who you become.

3rd Football Game

Jackets Fall to Watonga
September 19, 2008
~
The Jackets traveled to Watonga Friday to play football after a spirited week of rivalry. Our bell was stolen by Watonga and apparently a toilet was placed in their football field by some people from Fairview. The two teams have been in different divisions and haven't played each other for years so there was a big build up of anticipation for this game as to who was going to win.
Derrick played the whole game and did great. He played Center and Defense. That was the most exciting part of the game because the score was definitely not exciting. We unfortunately ended up losing 13-34. The entire team was disappointed to have lost to them
~ But I got some good pics of Derrick.....

2nd Football Game

A Wet Football Game!
September 12, 2008
~
After our flood on Thursday, Cashion traveled to Fairview to play the Jackets. It was still raining and really soggy! The annual Mexican Pile On was before the game, put on by the STUCO. As a parent of a STUCO kiddo, I got to help serve before the game. At least it was dry and cool! The game was another story! It rained the entire game and we ended up losing 2-14 ~ Bummer. But keeping me company was Derrick's Nana and Papa and his Uncle Chad who picked this great evening to come to a football game! Janell and Mark even came and sat in the rain with me until the 3rd quarter. I can only imagine how miserable it was to play in the pouring rain ~ it wasn't much fun sitting in the stands in the rain under the umbrella, but we made the best of it!

Mowing

~ Praying for the Grass to Die! ~
Mowing was one of Derrick's summer jobs but when it becomes September it's difficult to keep his motivation!
Once school starts and football is in full swing, mowing is the last thing he wants to do in his spare time but that's what you'll still find him doing on the weekends after they watch football film on Saturday mornings.

Hard at it!
Who knew all this early experience would come in handy later on!

Thoughts for Derrick

"Resolve to be tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant with the weak and the wrong.... Because sometime in your life you will have been all of these."
~ Mother Theresa

New Press Box

New Press Box at the Football Field!

A storm (unofficial tornado) blew our old press box off the football stadium this summer so a new one was built to replace it. Derrick helped build it while he worked for the school this summer.

Crane putting it in it's new home at the football field - It's huge!

Jackets Win Season Opener at OBA
September 5, 2008
~
It was a cold evening for the season opener but it was a great evening to be a Jacket! We traveled to OBA for the first game and Derrick started as Center! The first half of the game was a struggle for both teams as they went into half time with the score 0 to 0. But the second half was a different game! The Jackets scored 20 points in the second half and almost ended the game with a shut out but allowed OBA to score with a few seconds remaining on the clock. It was a great way to start the season!

Senior Truck

~ Working on the Senior Truck ~
August 30, 2008

Each year the Senior class has a senior vehicle that they use and abuse for the year. This year the vehicle is Kela Kelln's truck that she wrecked. Derrick, Dani, Tara, and Josh spent several hours the day of the car show getting the truck ready to drive in the parade at the car show later that night. The Senior moms want it finished so we can ride in the back of it in the homecoming parade in October! It's still a work in progress, but here are a few pictures of the work that day.

They spray painted the entire truck with black spray paint! (Top rate paint job!) They also duck taped the crack in the windshield! (Nothing but the best for this truck!)
