2nd Round of State Tournament
3/13/09
Jacket fans from far and wide traveled to Southern Nazarene to cheer on their team. Past alumni were found all over the crowds to see if this would be the team that would bring Fairview their first State Tournament Championship in basketball.
The atmosphere was intense but hopeful that if we won this game we would probably play Pawnee again and that was a challenge we welcomed since we lost to them in the Wheat Capital Tournament by 2 points in double overtime.

We cheered and cheered and willed the Jackets to make a shot but it just couldn't be done. The Jackets only scored 4 points in the first quarter! It was as if there was a lid on the basket. NOTHING would go in. It was extremely discouraging. They went into half time behind by 23 points. ~
But our Jackets NEVER quit! They kicked and clawed their way back from a 23 point deficit to a 2 point lead with 60 second left in the 4th quarter! We thought we were actually going to pull this off! The biggest come back in recent history! The crowd was going crazy!
~
Then as quick as we took the lead they tied us and a last second foul everything went crazy and we ended up losing by 2 points! It was a very emotional loss when you fight that hard to come back and have the lead with just seconds away and it's taken from you! The final score was 61-59. Talihina went on to play Pawnee and lost by 1 point in overtime. Pawnee is the State Champion.

We couldn't be more proud of them. It just wasn't meant to be. They ended their season 25-5 and were seconds away from making it to the "Big House". It was an awesome season and was exciting to watch!
